Life From the Concrete: Chiko Black’s “How It Goes”

South Florida has always had a sound of its own raw, melodic, emotional, and rooted in real life. How It Goes is both the name of my new single and a reflection of the journey that brought me here. This piece is an introduction to who I am, where I’m from, and why my voice represents something new coming out of Broward County.

My name is Chiko Black, and I’m a Black and Puerto Rican artist from South Florida. I make melodic hip-hop shaped by my culture, my environment, and the pressure that comes with growing up in Broward. The music I create is grounded in real experience the ambition, the grind, the lessons, and the reality of chasing something bigger than where you started.
